AIChE Gala Celebrates 10 Years of Doing a World of Good

This December, the AIChE® community will gather for the 2025 AIChE GalaEngineering a Decade of Impact. More than a celebration, the evening marks the 10-year anniversary of AIChE Foundation’s Doing a World of Good campaign. Over the past decade, your generosity fueled initiatives shaping the future of chemical engineering — from certifying 92,897 undergraduates in process safety, to supporting more than 500 HBCU undergraduates with FOSSI scholarships, to inspiring the next generation of innovators through Bee a ChemE, Summer School, and IDEAL Communities.

Each year, the Gala shined a spotlight on those advancing society through the safe and responsible application of chemical engineering, while raising millions to expand life-changing programs.

Looking Back at Past Galas - A Legacy of Inspiration:

  • 2024 – Inspiring the Power of Good: More than 300 guests gathered to honor BASF Corporation, with Michael Heinz (Chairman of BASF Corporation and BASF SE Board Member) accepting the award, for operational excellence and sustainability. Celanese Corporation was recognized for advancing women in leadership and supporting the next generation of STEM talent, with Lori Ryerkerk (Chairman, CEO, and President of Celanese) accepting the honor. Gregory Stephanopoulos (MIT) received the Doing a World of Good Medal for his pioneering work in metabolic and biochemical engineering. The evening raised $450,000 to underwrite transformative programs.

  • 2023 – Empowering Possibilities: Nearly 400 attendees recognized Erin Kane (AdvanSix) and Seifi Ghasemi (Air Products) for operational excellence and advancing diversity and equity, and Samir Mitragotri (Harvard University) for bioengineering innovations in drug delivery. The Gala raised $625,000 to invest in the Foundation’s five priorities.

  • 2022 – Engineering the Extraordinary: AIChE celebrated Chevron for its commitment to diversity and clean energy, and Ecolab for advancing food safety, clean environments, and sustainable resource use. Paula Hammond (MIT) received the Doing a World of Good Medal for her nanomaterials research and leadership in mentoring the next generation of engineers. With more than $500,000 raised, the Gala championed the next generation of engineers.

  • 2021 – Celebrating the Extraordinary: The Gala honored Stéphane Bancel (Moderna) for leadership in global healthcare, and presented the Doing a World of Good Medal to the founding partners of the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (Chris Jahn, ACC; Mark Vergnano, Chemours; and Ashley Christopher, HBCU Week Foundation). The hybrid event, with more than 300 live and virtual guests, raised $530,000 to expand programs that broaden the impact of chemical engineering.

  • 2020 – A Virtual Gala: Amid the pandemic, AIChE hosted its Gala, recognizing DuPont (Edward D. Breen) for sustainable product innovation and Thermo Fisher Scientific (Marc N. Casper) for global healthcare leadership. S. Shariq Yosufzai was presented with the Doing a World of Good Medal for his leadership in creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive profession. More than one thousand chemical engineers came together from around the world to raise funds that bring chemical engineering expertise to bear for the good of society.

Looking Ahead- A Decade of Impact:

The 2025 Gala honors all who addressed societal challenges and enhanced everyday lives through chemical engineering. Together, we’ll celebrate a decade of Doing a World of Good — and look toward the next decade of impact.
