“A professor herself and dedicated to empowering students to ensure successful chemical engineers, it is not surprising that Jessica is our first donor”, said Kathy Lee and Janice Adewuyi."

The Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is proud to announce that they have received a generous gift from Jessica Winter, to launch a fundraising campaign in support of the Janice Lumpkin Travel Award. “A professor herself and dedicated to empowering students to ensure successful chemical engineers, it is not surprising that Jessica is our first donor”, said Kathy Lee and Janice A. Adewuyi.

Honoring Dr. Janice Lumpkin's Legacy Named in memory of Dr. Janice Lumpkin, an esteemed Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, she was renowned for her excellence in research and teaching, balancing professional achievements with a deep commitment to her family and a dedication to service. Dr. Lumpkin inspired women and minorities to pursue studies in science and engineering, leaving an indelible mark on the academic community.

Setting an initial goal to raise $25,000 by the 2025 Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, the AIChE Foundation and the Lumpkin Travel Fund Fundraising Committee confirms that nearly 50% is already committed. Kathy added, “The Lumpkin Travel Award provides a travel stipend and complimentary registration helping to reduce financial constraints and ensuring access to attend the Annual Meeting, supporting career development.”

MAC is pleased to honor the legacy of a remarkable educator and mentor while reinforcing its commitment to engaging and enhancing educational opportunities for the next generation of diverse chemical engineers.
