You’re invited to Support the Wispelwey Fellowship

For nearly two decades, June C. Wispelwey has been a positive force for good at AIChE.
Starting from her efforts, along with many bioengineering colleagues, to found the Society for Biological Engineering (SBE), she has continuously advanced the visibility of bioengineers within and beyond chemical engineering.  Additionally, her decade-plus tenure as AIChE’s CEO and Executive Director has been instrumental in AIChE’s growth and success.

June Wispelwey helped to raise the visibility of bioengineers within and beyond the chemical engineering profession and shaped AIChE to ensure the organization’s continued growth and positive impact on society. – Deb Grubbe

SBE, along with the Foundation, is pleased to announce the creation of a fellowship to support the work of an emerging leader in the fields of biotechnology or bioengineering.
To ensure the success of the Wispelwey Bio Leadership Fellowship, a fundraising campaign, was launched to fully endow the recently established fund. In announcing the fellowship, Deborah Grubbe, AIChE’s 2021 President and chair of the steering committee leading the campaign for the initiative, said, “This is a fitting tribute to June Wispelwey, who over the past two decades has helped to raise the visibility of bioengineers within and beyond the chemical engineering profession. It is also a tribute to the lasting impact that June is leaving on AIChE.” Joining Deborah Grubbe on the steering committee, are Arindam Bose, Principal, ABiologicsB, LLC; and John Televantos, Senior Partner at Arsenal Capital.
Our aspiration is to endow the Wispelwey Fellowship by achieving the fundraising goal of $250,000. As of the 2022 AIChE Spring Meeting, more than $90,000 has been raised. Your gift will underwrite a rising biotechnology leader to work on a biotechnical and biological project in support of SBE, chemical engineers, and / or the broader technical community.
The inaugural June Wispelwey SBE Bio Leadership Fellowship is slated for presentation in 2023.
Your gift to the AIChE Foundation will ensure we can support the next generation of extraordinary.
